The students are asked to read material beforehand for the three hour lectures. The lecture and this material will form the basis for discussions in the end of the lecture. The reading material will also be required in the exam.

World Development journal, vol 34 issue 8 (accessible from HUT library website http://lib.tkk.fi/ and Nelli-portaali / Nelli Portal). Read introduction by Thorbecke & Nissanke and based on that choose two articles that you find interesting.
In addition to lecture material the students are reguired to read the following chapters from the book by Lester R. Brown: Plan B 2.0: Rescuing a Planet Under Stress and a Civilization in Trouble Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 And also the Executive summary (short) of the current Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change
